The Republican Base
Hate to disappoint you Democrats, but the concept of a Republican base crack up in Wisconsin is pure crap. (If I am still blogging in my 50s I'll call it wishful thinking...in my 60s I will refer to it as claptrap...in my 70s...Oh, who am I kidding I will use all these terms within the next month....)
Anyway...it is pure crap.
The "base" is frustrated. That's evident in opinion polls and even here at the convention. The mainstream media would like to think that hard core Republicans are going to stay home in droves this fall.
Nope.
Based on tonight, the base is hungry...but not abandoning ship.
Note, one interesting absence from the convention tonight is hometown Senator Mike Ellis. I am sure he'll be here tomorrow.

based on a thousand insiders at the convention?
The base won't show up to vote if Republicans don't get their act together. I can promise you that much.
You can't promise me anything anon. Are there folks on the internet like you who are complaining anonymously that they're going to stay home? Yep. But you don't represent more than .01% of the population. I'm not knocking you. I'm being serious.
Bloggers don't have as much influence as we'd like to think. It seems that there are people who think that because some bloggers are threatening to stay home, every conservative in the country is staying home.
Do you know how many voters have never heard of a blog? Many - possibly most - of them. Because most of them don't give a rip about issues. They just vote because that's the thing to do.
A few hard ideologues who are fed up will stay home, that's for sure. Or they'll vote for a bunch of write-ins, as if it'll make a statement. But there won't be many of you.
Again, I'm not knocking you. You have the prerogative to stay home. But you saying that "The base won't show up to vote" is just you blowing off frustration. As frustrated as the base (including myself) is, the base won't be staying home. The base is smarter than that. The alternative is just too dangerous.
