Jim Doyle and State Employees

Heh.
Senator Kanavas: Doyle to Reach Job Goal by 2029
(Madison, WI)….State Senator Ted Kanavas (R-Brookfield) announced today that Governor Jim Doyle, at his current pace, will reach his goal of eliminating 10,000 jobs from the state payroll in 2029.

During Doyle’s campaign for Governor in 2002, he promised to cut 10,000 state employees by the year 2010. According to information obtained from the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau, from 2002 to 2005 only 1,490 jobs have been eliminated, an average of 372.5 jobs per year.

“I am pleased the Governor going to reach his goal, but his math was a little off. If Governor Doyle is serious about eliminating the bureaucracy in Madison, he had better get cracking. We are more than halfway to 2010, and he has not made one-quarter of the job cuts,” Kanavas said.

Governor Doyle’s plan was to eliminate full-time equivalent jobs from all funds to downsize the government to its size in 1986. However, Governor Doyle is not even close to attaining that goal.

“I support streamlining government and cutting jobs at the state level. But, it’s difficult to draw any conclusion other than the Governor did not intend to fulfill that promise,” Kanavas concluded.
Isn't it a bit unfair to actually expect Governor Doyle to keep his word, now...all of a sudden?

It's gonna be awfully hard for me to vote for Jim Doyle in his 2026 re-election bid, but if that's how long it takes . . .

It took Tommy Boy fourteen years to bloat the state’s bureaucracy and now Teddy wants the heads to roll pretty darn quickly? Put a civil tongue in your mouth Teddy.

It doesn't much matter what "Tommy Boy" did at this point.

What is at issue are the broken promises from Jim Doyle.

Again...why do Democrats always want to change the topic???

I guess that addressing "legacy costs" is cosidered to be changing the topic to some people. Or does that topic only apply to the members of organized labor, public or private sector?

See...you just CAN'T address the issue can you Mollie...

Doyle promised a reduction of 10,000 by 2010. He's not going to even come close to that. He's breaking yet another campaign promise and you simply refuse to accept it.

I'm not any happier about what was done during Tommy's administration than you are, but this is about Doyle and his broken promises.

Perphaps on your blog or on a posting that is discussing big governement under Tommy you can blather on about it...but for now, ADDRESS THE ISSUE.

You win. Doyle’s a stinking liar who just can’t lop the heads off more state employees, especially when the legislature keeps adding them every time he turns around. You remember those 600 or so new employees that the legislature added to his submitted budget, don’t you? Teddy voted for every one of them, which would seem to contradict his press release.
Doyle should be more like our beloved President eh? The biggest spender in the past 40 years is George W Bush, with expenditure racing ahead 8.2% annually… this from Doug Bandow, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, former special assistant to President Reagan.
One might think that a compliment would be in order to a Governor who managed simply to maintain the employee status quo.
