Illegal Immigration Rally Concludes as Veterans' Park
Anyone else find it ironic that the illegal alien rally in Milwaukee concluded at Veterans' Park yesterday?
A park which honors those who served to defend America, American values and in support of the American way of life...
...being used by a group that has no respect for the validity of our borders and our immigration policies
...being used by a group that celebrates lawlessness and demands amnesty
...being used by a group that was encouraging their supporters to basically boycott the American economy for the day
Outrageous.
The rally, and the marches across the country are doing more to push away those of us who are in the middle on this issue, than building a coalition on their behalf.

Amen!
5% of our armed forces are foreign born, that was the point.
And what percentage of the armed forces are illegal aliens who broke US law by entering this country illegally and are now demanding amnesty for their crime?
Then let's go back to the immigration policies in effect during the late 1800s and through the mid 1900s - when our great nation welcomed immigrants with open arms and without the forcity you seem to like so much, Fraley.
After all, everyone who is not a native american is an immigrant or a descendant of one.
As for the boycott, the idea was to demonstrate these folks who have been the subject of so much scorn and meanspirited discussion are in fact a big part of the nation's economy.
Don't get me wrong Fraley, I know how committed you are to ant real discussion of the issues, but there are some serious economic issues here.
"celebrates lawlessness?!" That is nuts. They were celebrating their roles in our community and country.
and, i know you don't like facts but it is not a crime to enter the country without permission.
What is so odd, however, is that we all know that the vast majority of undocumented immigrants are here onlybecause they found it necessary to come here to be able to put food on the table and create decent lives for their families.
The workings of a criminal mind, truly. This whole discussion has gotten pretty detathed from reality and pretty inhumane.
all these protest have done is drive people who were on the fence to be in favor of a fence.
The idea that its immigrants rather than reckless punditry and right winger rhetoric that have divided the country on this one is silly.
the shrillness of the discussion, the sheer mean spiritedness of it has been startling. Essays devoted solely to how important is that we call them "illegals" rather than immigrants or undocumented immigrants, for example, serve only as a means of inflaming emotions, it adds nothing to the discussion.
Or the screeling about, horror or horrors, Mexican flags at rallies. I don't recall displays of Irish or German flags sending people into outraged fits.
This is all abbout the last 6 years of republican strategy based on appealing to the most emotional issues among the base and whipping up a frenzy at the expense of folks whose votes the right doesn't think it'll need.
regardless of which side one is on in the current debate, the way this debate has gone is bad for the country

What my anonymous poster fails to mention is that President Bush, the defacto head of the REPUBLICAN party has been on his/her side on this issue.
That, and Congressional spending, are the two main reasons Bush's approval ratings have fallen within the base of his own party
