Doyle Appoints Campaign Donors to Board of Regents

News Item: Governor Jim Doyle today announced four new appointments to the Board of Regents. Jeffrey Bartell of Madison, Brent Smith of La Crosse, and Mary Cuene of Green Bay will serve as the new public members of the Board. Thomas Shields of Oshkosh will serve as the first non-traditional student representative on the Board.

You won't read this in the MSM, most likely, but the bulk of these appointees are donors to Doyle, half of them appear to be major donors.

Jeffrey Bartell is a frequent donor to Democrat campaigns. He's given more than $12,000 to Doyle according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.

Looks like Brent Smith is in for several thousand as well.

Mary Cuene is a much more modest contributor, but a contributor nonetheless.

Shields doesn't appear to have opened up his wallet. Yet.

That's because Doyle hates sunny days and supports Osama Bin Laden and kicks puppy dogs.

Fraley, must you be so petty and cheap?

Let me get this straight, Brain[less]... You mean Governors appoint friends, including CAMPAIGN DONORS, to the Board of Regents!?!

Now that you have made this stunning revelation, I look forward to the "60 Minutes" expose next Sunday.

May I assume you are you going to run the Tommy Thompson Board of Regents appointments through this AMAZING new filter?

This is shocking news. You mean, Governors actually appoint people they have known for many years? What can a stranger do to get ahead in this town?

You actually will read this in the MSM _ but Bartell has actually given closer to $17,000, including $3,000 in December, if you include the last six months of donations by looking at doyle's report.

Be honest, Brian. Take a look at the Tommy donors who were apppointed to the Board of Regents. Do you have the guts to do this? We will not hold our collective breaths...

Why should Brian look at Tommy's appointments...if you're so troubled with it, you should have said so at the time. it's past.

NOW we're looking at Doyle and his continued pay for play attitude.

Okay, I for one am very dissapointed that I wasn't picked. It's just so hard being blue.

The point about looking at Tommy's stuff is not that Tommy was a bad guy too - but that many of the Doyle haters are hypocrites.

wow, not many people willing to disclose their names, huh?

I might as well join them.

on second thought, screw it. here's my name, and here are my thoughts:

I really don't care if donors get Doyle's appointments. My problem is if those donors are less qualified. If they have absolutely no educational experience, there's a problem.

But the fact that they donated doesn't matter to me. Donating shouldn't be a punishment in and of itself. It just shouldn't be the deciding factor.

And that's where I question Doyle.

I like Jim Klauser as much as the next person, but consider these facts:

1. Jim sat atop the mountain at DOA during the day, signing off on all state contracts. It was during Herr Klauser's reign, of course, that so much power was consolidated in the "Department of All" as it came to be known.

2. At night Jim went home to Maple Bluff and put on his hat as chairman of the Governor's campaign committee.

3. Waiting for Jim at home was Shirley, the campaign treasurer. Can't you see them seated at the table in that magnificent kitchen opening the contribution envelopes which came in that day?

Does this make Jim Klauser a crook? No, absolutely not. But the people today who are foaming at the mouth over any connection between a Doyle donor and anything which happens are engaged in some major league hypocrisy. At the head of the line of hyprocrites is Little-Brain Fraley.
