Milwaukee County Board
Approves Additional Funding
for Holloway Ethics Case
Milwaukee County taxpayers and the County Board Chairman Lee Holloway will at least have access to due process after all.
The County Board has just voted 16-2 (Coggs-Jones and Mayo voting no) to provide continued funding to the Ethics Board ($75,000) so that the case against Holloway may proceed.
A positive development.
Holloway, by the way, abstained.
More on this later, including some insight on the various statements made on the floor by several supervisors.

Fraley -- I am sure you will be discussing how the ridiculous failure of CRG's "rally" last night shows that this business about a huge scandal and public uproar is a hoax. Right? I mean you are all about the truth, right?
Anonymous,
My take on the CRG rally has been written about at length here.
http://www.wisopinion.com/blogs/dailytakes/2006/04/how-long-will-milwaukee-county-remain.html Now, Citizens for Responsible Government is trying to organize a rally to raise funds to privately pay for the prosecution of the ethics case. I am not in favor of this approach for a few reasons.
One, it’s convoluted. This is a matter of public integrity and to go this route lets the County Board off the hook. Two, it will not be a well-organized or well-attended event and it won’t accurately reflect the breadth of taxpayer and voter dissatisfaction with Holloway’s handling of both his chairmanship and his ethics probe. Three, CRG’s involvement will be divisive and will threaten the needed coalition referred to previously. I am not discouraging people from attending the rally, however calling their board member and getting others to do so is a more immediate and effective way to bring about the results they desire.
As for the public uproar, Anonymous, do you really think the supervisors changed their votes on a whim? Or maybe it was because they received a lot of phone calls on the matter.
Thanks for reading!
This is what I mean Fraley -YOU JUST LIE. No one changed their votes. The finance committee held over a requested for 150,000 to get more info; they got more info and then approved the $75,000.
Your talk of denying the money the first time around and changing their votes now is nothing more than a straight-up, bold faced, intentional lie.
They voted for the 75,000 because after recieving the info, they thought it was the right thing to do. The rest of this is simply your invention
they thought it was the right thing to do.
HA!
Most of them wouldn't know the "right thing to do" if it came up and bit them in the ass.
Authorizing the $150k did not mean spending all of it. just that it was available. Holloway's plan to bankrupt the prosecution was well publicized here and in the Journal.
West didn't want to authorize any of it. Either did Johnson. But they reacted to the calls Fraley helped spur.
The smear tactic is obvious. Do what we think needs doing because its the right thing. When people do that thing, your response is always: They're still scum but we pressured them into it.
The fact is that most members of the finance committee simply held the thing over for more info, got the info and approved funding as recommended by the county's lawyer.
Waiting to get info before spending the public's money seems like good public service, not the chicanery you so hysterically accuse people of.
In contrast, you and the 10 or so CRGer's declared that anyone who did not vote for the 150k was a crook or worse -- before you had any facts.
At least you guys are pure -- there's no principle; its only about beatingon people we don't like.
"calls Fraley helped spur?" You are in la la land. How many people do you think read this blog? How many of them are regular folks and not political junkies? How many calls do you think got made?
This is just delusional.
I don't much care about this issue. I just tend to believe that people deserve the government they elect and they elected Holloway.
Call me stupid, but if you elect someone who is corput, then you get coruption. If you elect a leader, then you get leadership. If you elect a liar, then you get a liar.
Quite an interesting principal, isn't it? Why is it so hard for people to see this?
Honestly, I think it has to do with our own personal standards. I think that's what's getting us in trouble.
Do you know why Congress is spending this nation into bankruptcy? It's because we're doing the same with our family budgets.
Credit card spending is no different than skyrocketing deficits.
My only point is that we oughta wait for the outcome of the proceedings. Fraley can't help himself, declaring Holloway guilty and simply inventing lies to support it.
