Huge Milwaukee Protest for Illegal Alliens

Looks like I won't be leaving work early today after all.

From JSOnline's DayWatch:
Marchers took to the streets this morning on Milwaukee's south side as part of the "A Day Without Latinos" demonstration. Milwaukee police estimated the crowd at more than 10,000 people.

The demonstration began at Voces de la Frontera on S. 5th St. and moved across the 6th St. Viaduct to Zeidler Park. The marchers are protesting legislative efforts that target undocumented immigrants. Photo from J/S Online by Mark Wilke

They are undocumented because they are not legal aliens.

I don't object to legal immigration. Coming to America to pursue your dreams is what this country is all about. There are ways to do this, legally.

Perhaps we need a more broad guest worker program, but we can not condone lawbreaking.

It might have been more interesting if you address the point of the protest. Any idea what would happen to the economy if undocumented workers were sent home?

i am not mexican but i marched right aside with them. can u imagine living in a country without any latinos? we do so much for this country of false promises. FREEDOM? where is it when hard working, decent people are trying to pursue their dreams and your willing not only to take that dream from them but also punish them. we need to educate ourselves and our children so that there isnt so much ignorance in society today. they are not illegal aliens they are human beings with a dream.

I heard that the turn out at the demonstration wa 30,000.

I marched this morning, and feel quite proud about it.

We did leave our families and beautifull weather to come to this country to fulfill the same promise that motivated your ancestors to come.

Opportunity is scarce in Latin America because of misguided international trade strategies that benefit the wealthy countries while empoverishing the already economically weak countries.

There are plenty of people who come to this country LEGALLY. Why should someone be rewarded from coming here illegally? It's an insult to the people who played by the rules.

And you liberals with your economy arguement...somehow it's suddently okay for these folks to be here but only get paid the minimum wage? Give me a break.

Today's paper said the protest closed with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Perhaps the flag of the United States of America, but it was hard to tell from the photos.

please SUBTITLES in the movies!!!

"...here illegally? It's an insult to the people who played by the rules."
It is an insult that year after year immigration laws get tougher and tougher. Excuse me but did the first English people had to wait 15 years for a job permit??? No they just worked without permission and killing thousands of indigenous tribes...

You all say Latinos "work the jobs most Americans wont take"...it only looks that way cause you only see Latinos out in the fields... farmers wont hire any other because Latinos work for NEXT TO NOTHING. They are helping to KILL our economy. Start demanding the same wages AMERICANS ask for their labor- you wont be hired. Plenty of Americans would gladly take those jobs, cause their kids are not being clothed and fed properly. (because.... welfare wont help either, you have to be a "migrant farm worker" or a "minority" to get assistance these days). OUR taxes pay for that- your housing, your food stamps, your monthly welfare checks... and WHAT do you do? You, who are being paid for by American business owners, send your money back to Mexico to your relatives- you don't even roll it back into the economy here. What kind of "American" are YOU trying to be?

If you're insistent on being here, go home & try again.... try coming here legally. Pay your taxes like we do, help feed the needy & poor like we do, don't use all our resources to feed your family back home. Build this country, as we try to do....don't just scavenge off of it.
