Another Call for Holloway to Step Down as Chair

By Holloway making his controversy about race, he causes harm to current and future African-American leaders. Many in the white community ask why is the African-American community supporting Holloway? When white County Executive Tom Ament was under fire, creating controversy and ineffective leadership, the white community didn't support him; he was forced to step down.
There should not be a double standard. When elected officials -- no matter the color of their skin -- are mired in controversy and cannot effectively lead or effectively represent their constituents, they should relinquish their leadership post.
So says prominent Milwaukee area Democrat Barbara Boxer in today's Milwaukee Insight column.

The fact is that Ament faced a huge movement of voters to get out of office. That is not happening here; its the ten superviusors, a handful of commentators, you and Sykes, and that's about it.
Besides, wioth Ament there was no legal issue, it was a political issue and he faced a massive political uprising.
The question here is why, for the first time, a Chair facing mere allegations should step down when, in the past, that hasn't been the case. The only disruption/distraction comes from the small handful determined to make this a wedge issue and use it to replace the Chair.
Of course, Boxer also makes the point in her own way. Ament lost his ability to work with everybody. Holloway has not. The ten white supoervisors, even if you add yourself and Sykes, hardly amounts to the total in effectiveness you claim.
And in the end, another White political wag can't help but tell the African American community how to feel. She writes: "Many in the white community ask why is the African-American community supporting Holloway?"
The answer is that they ask this because the racial gulf in the city and in politics is so vast, we basically have two cities. Holloway is seen in one of those cities as a guy who broke down barrieris and helped get some representation where there was none for a long time. Now he faces unprecedented attacks and standards never before applied. Its really not hard to answer the question Bozer raises, if you are really looking for an answer.
Wow....get spell check. What a rant.
