Irascible. Cantankerous. Crusty, Crotchety & Right
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel thinks Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner should be ashamed of himself for saying that Milwaukee is rapidly becoming the murder capitol of the U.S.
Milwaukee's liberal white establishment led by Mayor Tom Barrett, the Third Ward public relations firm of Speak No Evil and the former head of the Wisconsin Arts Board, want you to know that Milwaukee's not number one when it comes to murders. Milwaukee is number ten, and the number of murders would practically have to double in order for Milwaukee to surpass Baltimore as the murder capital of the country.
So if 77 people are murdered in the city and nobody talks about it, does it make a sound?
The answer is yes. And what really concerns the liberal establishment is not whether Jim Sensenbrenner's comments will hurt tourism. The sound they're afraid of is more levers being pulled for conservative, tough on crime candidates like Sheriff David Clarke.
Come November, will Milwaukee voters feel safer with Jim Doyle and Catch and Release Kate?
Today's online poll question:
What metaphor best describes Mayor Barrett and the liberal, Milwaukee elites? Are they:
a) Burying their heads in the sand.
b) Whistling past the (expanding) graveyard
c) Killing the messenger
d) Bringing a bookmobile to a gunfight

How about "all of the above"?
I agree with Kate
e) all of the above
I have a graphic of an ostrich with its head in the sand on my post on this topic.
Adding a link to this post to mine as well.
Great, so the Journal Sentinel "reporter" goes out and "investigates" a "story" just so the accompanying Journal Sentinel editorial (also critical of Sensenbrenner!) can point to it for "proof" Milwaukee isn't really having such a bad time of it with murderers, gang rapists of 11 year olds, etc etc etc. I'll bet that reporter doesn't feel used.
The JS says that perception makes reality, apparently. But only sometimes. The perception of those living in Milwaukee? THEIR perception doesn't matter: because if it did, Sensenbrenner would be right on target.
Rather than care about the people who live here, the JS is more worried about the the guessed at perception of some unknown but possible visitor, who is somewhere else, watching us, weighing every move we make....
Meanwhile, Milwaukee is losing population year after year after year - as all the people who perceive a problem but could give a rip about waiting around to have a reasoned community talk about it all with the JS as moderator take off for safer pastures.
But according to the JS, their perception is just all wrong.
Let's talk a little bit about the facts here. Rep. Sennsebrenner was called out for supporting legislation that will make it more difficult for police and prosecutors to catch and prosecute criminals by preventing them from sharing information about gun purchases.
Instead of explaining how the legislation would help reduce crime in Milwaukee or defending his vote, Sensebrenner fired off an inflammatory comment that will do nothing other than provide a topic for local talk radio.
What would Sensenbrenner do to solve the crime problem in Milwaukee? Is he too good to grace those of us who live here with his wisdom? Does he have leadership to offer, or just hot air?
Sensenbrenner isn't crotchety. He's a coward.
Flyin' Jim, soft on crime.
