Jensen's Self-Destruction
Maybe someday soon-to-be-former State. Rep. Scott Jensen, (R-Town of Brookfield), will tell us what he was thinking when he chose to contest charges in court to which he had already confessed.
Charges similar to those to which a bi-partisan handful of other legislators had already pleaded guilty.
Charges supported by a trove of documents and witnesses.
Shakespeare wrote about the insolence of office: Jensen has re-defined it.

He wasn't thinking. It was just pure arrogance.
This was a tragedy.
There are plenty of sleezes in the capitol Jensen wasn't one of them.
Under the standards that were used to convict Jensen every elected official in the state could go to jail, including the Grand Hypocrite-In-Chief Brian Blanchard.
Use caucus staff for campaigns much, Brian? Forget to prosecute the caucus that shoe-horned you into power? Such a surprise.
Not.
Tragedy my ass.
The money and intense partisanship that have polluted the state legislature were a product of Tommy Thompson and his acolytes Scott Jensen and Scott Walker.
What we have gotten for government here in this state over teh past 20 years has been shameful. I usually am not rah rah when it comes to the prospect of people going off to jail, but in Jensen's case this just makes a start on paying back for ruining our once fine clean government tradition.
If you think the Democrats weren't doing the exact same thing, then you either didn't see Blanchards report or you're so partisan that I'm wasting my time. The whole system is corrupt, yet many think it's ONLY those evil Republicans or ONLY those wicked Democrats. People need to pull their heads out of their butts. This was a travesty. Remeber your gloating if it ever happens to a Democrat. Politics seems to be all about payback these days.
Gee..a republican was found guilty. I can promise you the dems with give as much symphany as you republicans would if a dem was found guilty. Hows it tasin.
Can we at least agree that Scott Jensen is a felon? He knew exactly what he was doing, and he was not prosecuted simply because he was a republican. He is unique only in his arrogant belief that his crimes would be understood and accepted as business as usual. Such thinking would ultimately excuse almost all crime. The case was solid. His transgressons against the taxpayers and honest citizens of this state set the example for all the excesses of both parties.
"Under the standards that were used to convict Jensen every elected official in the state could go to jail"
--> THAT would be a good start & clear the way for Real Reform!
Libertarians, Greens, Independents were all screwed for years ... they had NO WAY to compete with the political machine running the elections. Such representation by 3rd parties & independents would help balance the 2-party system of corruption.
Out of the 2 convicted ring leaders, Chavala got off lightly because he plea-bargained (and Lindee Walll didn't have access to boxes of information on his direction of political staffers). His Pay-for-Play activities were criminal but at least he admitted his mistakes.
Jensen as the director was pulling the strings of many of the elected officials who would dare not cross him on policy if they wanted their jobs back the next election season. We call that "extortion" where I come from.
The legislators that went along with this system got off Scott-Free (no pun intended). They too deserved charges, at least a misdemeanor conviction for their activities were wrong and they shouyld have stood up to those in charge.
Speaking of getting off "Scott-Free" HOW is it that Scott Walker walked away totally unscathed in the Caucus Scandal Saga? He was in the band playing along with Tommy Thompson / Scott Jensen... what happened there?
Scooter fell hard because he played the corrupt system to the max. He was the lead player and fought the charges the hardest. So taking him down likely puts an end to the legal cases. Now - we can only hope the voters punish Gard and possibly also Walker/Green. Probably the best punishment would be to elect enough Dems to hand the Senate back to Democrats. Please voters wake up! The so-called conservatives have let us all down.
e2 and billiam, you really need to follow the news. Two Dems were charged, two Republicans were charged. All now have been adjudged guilty. It's just that the other three -- a Repub as well as both Dems -- took a plea.
Jensen's hubris took him to trial, not the Dems. And the reason to take a plea is not just to avoid further costs of justice -- for taxpayers, too -- but primarily to avoid a conviction in court that can result in a harsher sentence.
Jensen brought this on himself all the way through the process.
