Who really blinked on choice?

The right wing coverage of the school choice compromise declares it a big victory for the right wing (what a surprise), and is almost unanimous in saying Gov. Jim Doyle is the one who blinked.

Jay Bullock, a Milwaukee teacher and choice opponent who's been following the issue much more closely than I have, and who has written considerably more about it, says the idea that Doyle blinked is as phony as the manufactured "crisis" over the issue. Read it here.

Wishful thinking. It is engraved in the hearts and minds of the Milwaukee community that Gov Doyle hates School Choice, tried to kill it for three years, and caved in only because the school choice community (low income parents and students and schools and the business community) rose up and made him.

And admint it, your glad there's an agreement, for all kinds of reasons. You've supported choice, so there's that. And whether this agreement helps Doyle or not (it may be way too late and his obstinency and misjudgement may have done too much damage) it cuts a big anchor from around his neck.

And large parts of that same community know he exercised choice for his own kids.

Damn word processing. Inserted paragraph starting "And admit it" between the other two destroying continuity. "admit it" should have ended the post.
