Xoff, it's not as Biblical as you spin it. It's also not as Biblical as Bob's self-satisfied view that his adopted home has gone from shithole to Heaven in a heartbeat.

Ajora quiero mi Taco Bell, Roberto.

yes I am quite satisfied. Thank you my friend. Jefferson now has a future after all. I know that you know how I feel about things. Not even at a business aspect. I'm talking personally. I like you, hope you are running again!

It's appropriate to be satisfied. It's also appropriate to be respectful and gracious in victory (and in defeat). Part of the reason is practical. Today's majority will someday need people from today's minority. The other reason is that showing respect to your opponent is simply the right thing to do.

Thanks for your kind words. I intend to run again, and look forward to working with you.

From the Watertown Daily Times, five days ago: '"I wanted to have a referendum on Wal-Mart. When I ran for office I told people we should have a referendum - this will be the referendum folks," Olsen stated, adding that if people want a Wal-Mart to vote for his opponent.'

And in the Journal today: '"You can't say based upon tonight's results that the City of Jefferson wants a Wal-Mart," Olsen said.'

And on the front page of today's Daily Jefferson County Union, Jefferson's Mayor Collin Stevens: "This election was about David Olsen, not Wal-Mart. David has been a disruptive influence to the City of Jefferson in every position he has held."

I've always thought there should be some kind of betting pool in elections to wager on how quickly which candidate will utter the phrases "it's a time for healing," "this is a mandate" and "this is not a mandate".

Here I was thinking I was so creative coming up with the David and Goliath thing. Anyway, John Foust made a brief appearance on my blog shortly after I posted my comments on the recall. I stumbled upon his numerous comments here after googling his name.

I think he misses the point that whether Wal-Mart's corporation was directly involved or not isn't relevant. This election is one more example of the unfortunate success of Wal-Mart's public relations campaign. Too many people have been convinced by Wal-Mart's self promotion that its stores are good for our communities.
