Editorial: State GOP should apologize

As if the gargantuan mess that was last November's election in Milwaukee wasn't bad enough, the Wisconsin Republican Party has been painting it as even more dire than it actually was. This campaign of hype crossed the line of decency two weeks ago, however, when it sullied the reputation of an innocent person, who now deserves an apology. -- Journal Sentinel editorial.

Yesterday's post,"Republican charges untrue, but they go right on making them."

And where is the Journal Sentinel's promised analysis of voting patterns in other areas of the state? Why does it abdicate that responsibility and thus reinforce the GOP focus on the city of Milwaukee, when it reported such incredible results as the city of Waukesha claiming a 98 percent turnout . . . of registered voters, true, but 98 PERCENT? (See "More state voters than ever cast ballots," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, November 3, 2004.) Even a besmirched seminarian with faith in all things would find that unbelievable.

And not even the inner-city wards of Milwaukee, the true target of the GOP, attempted to claim such numbers -- since they were subjected not to voter fraud but to vote suppression, a far more widespread problem that somehow is not a concern of the GOP.
